Case study · Restaurant website
Saison
An Asian fusion restaurant in Nijmegen, stuck on a generic template. We rebuilt it around its own name: 旬, the moment an ingredient is at its best.
The brief
The old site could have belonged to any restaurant: carousel sliders, a phone number and not one thing that said Japanese craft. For a place that grills on kamado and makes its own sushi, that undersold the room.
The new one needed an identity drawn from the restaurant itself, a menu you can read on a phone, and a way to book a table in seconds.
What we built
- A hero that changes with the seasons
- A woven logo with 旬 and a hanko seal
- A 116-dish menu you can filter
- Booking with a live price estimate
Saison means season. In Japanese that idea is 旬 (shun), so we threaded the kanji through the logo and sealed it with a red hanko. The red comes from the restaurant's own facade.
The hero dissolves through spring, summer, autumn and winter in a custom noise shader. The red wave band reads today's date and shows the kanji for the current season.
We typed in the whole menu from their PDF cards, 116 dishes. It has sticky category tabs, and the vegetarian filter dims dishes rather than hiding them, so you never lose your place.
No framework and no cookie banner. The map is drawn from OpenStreetMap and served from the site itself.
Under the hood
By the numbers
- 116 Dishes on a menu you can filter
- 0 Frameworks or runtime dependencies
- 4 Seasons, rotating live
A redesign proposal for the restaurant. The photos and menu are theirs.
Got something
worth building?
Rough is fine. Send us the idea before it is tidy, while there is still room to make it stranger.
- A reply within two working days
- A plan and a quote. No pitch deck
- A straight no if the budget and the idea do not match
